Updating the FPE LED firmware for proper operation as a SimHub device

Updating the FPE LED firmware for proper operation as a SimHub device

Setting up the GSI Formula Pro Elite as a Simhub device

Ever since version 8.3.0, Simhub has offered support for adding GSI wheels as complete Simhub devices instead of separate screen and Arduino devices.
For this to work on the Formula Pro Elite (FPE), the wheel needs to have an updated LED firmware to allow it to be recognized as a Simhub device and for the LEDs to operate properly. This did not affect the usage of the screen however, and would only lead to a Partially Connected message due to the LEDs not being detected.

Simhub version 9.1.1 however introduced the following behavior:

On Combined USB devices (LEDs + screen), screen will start to try connecting only if the LEDs are connected (avoiding useless screen search etc. …)

This means that if you have defined the FPE as a GSI Simhub device but have not updated the LED firmware yet, the LEDs will not come alive and the screen will therefore also not come alive.

The solution therefore is to update the LED firmware to allow the FPE to be added as a Simhub device, or to add the FPE as a legacy device.

Solution: Update the LED Firmware

To update the LED firmware on your FPE download the LED Updater and follow the tutorial on YouTube in order to control your wheel as a device in SimHub.

Alternative: Add the FPE as a Legacy (Arduino) Device

If you do not wish to update your wheel firmware, follow the instructions in our original FPE Setup Guide.
